Cain Velasquez issues public statement: True victims of this case, may God give you the strength to come forward

Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez finally spoke out. Velasquez took to his Instagram account to thank everyone for their support.

On February 28, Cain Velasquez was arrested for shooting at an alleged molester of an underaged family member. Velasquez rammed his truck and aimed for Harry Goularte (who is charged with abusing the relative) but missed and shot his stepfather instead. Velasquez was then arrested and arraigned. Subsequently, he was denied bail by Judge Shelyna Brown because she considered him a threat to public safety.

Recently, Velasquez issued a statement on his Instagram account. He thanked people who have supported him and helped his family.

“To everyone that has expressed your support, my family and I will never be able to thank you enough. From the bottom of our hearts and the depths of our souls, we are forever grateful for your love. Your selfless gestures and kind words have given me the strength in my darkest times. This story is complex and slowly unraveling as we speak. To the true victims of this case, may God give you the strength to come forward. Though it is most difficult to relieve the pain that has happened to you, in speaking the truth, justice will be served and your own true healing will start. I will never stop helping or loving my community and all of you. Thank you for loving me – Cain Velasquez,  the statement reads.

The MMA community has been supporting Velasquez since the day he got arrested. Many believe that the 39-year-old was doing a reasonable thing and shouldn’t be persecuted by law. The MMA community rallied behind him upon hearing the circumstances off the case and the hashtag ‘FreeCain’ got widespread on social media.

UFC middleweight contender Derek Brunson also launched a T shirt campaign containing the slogan Free Cain – with all of the profits from the T shirt sales going to Cain’s legal defense fund. He managed to raise over $10,000 for the Velasquez’s family.

We’ve previously written about the fact that police is conducting interviews and looking for other victims of Goularte. Goularte was a fixture at a children’s daycare his mother was running. The abuse allegedly took place at the day care and police are actively looking for other victims. Velasquez’ relative was reportedly abused over 100 times by Goularte.
