Zabit Magomedsharipov officially informs UFC of retirement from MMA

Zabit Magomedsharipov has announced his retirement from MMA to the UFC. Magomedsharipov hasn’t participated in any fight in almost two and a half years. Various reasons were stated for the featherweight prospect’s inactivity.

Rumors of health problems surfaced, with some stating that an esophageal ailment made training difficult. Others said he had an immune system issue. There were also rumors that Magomedsharipov did not care about fighting any more and had dedicated himself to spirituality.

While we may have to wait a while to uncover the truth behind Magomedsharipov’s mysterious exit, many sources have confirmed that the Russian fighter has contacted the UFC and informed them of his retirement.

Magomedsharipov departs the sport with a perfect 6-0 UFC record and an overall 18-1 MMA record. In 2019, he was rated No. 3 at featherweight after victories over Jeremy Stephens and Calvin Kattar. However, his inactivity knocked him out of title contention and many questioned if his cardio could make it through the championship rounds.

It is no exaggeration to suggest that Zabit Magomedsharipov will be remembered as one of the greatest ‘What if’ tales in UFC history.

We do not know what Magomedsharipov will do next. While many speculate he has aspirations to get into the medical field – these are rumors based on a sponsored post he posted about a medical app and not a medical facility.

Zabit can still be seen training with his brother and working a heavy bag with speed and agility.

While we may have seen the last of Zabit Magomedsharipov in the octagon, his younger brother Khasan Magomedsharipov continues to fight. Magomedsharipov, who is 21 years old, is presently unbeaten.

Khasan Magomedsharipov has a record of 7-0 and is signed by Bellator. He has a record of 2-0 in the featherweight class.

Khasan Magomedsharipov’s most recent bout came in February 2022, when he defeated Jose Sanchez by unanimous decision. The scores of the event were 30-26, 30-27, and 30-27.

With Zabit Magomedsharipov still in his corner and in the gym, it would be interesting to see whether Khasan Magomedsharipov can match his older brother’s MMA achievements.
