UFC Vegas 49 just concluded. At the busy Las Vegas Apex the fighters and their teams weren’t required to wear masks – for the first time since the pandemic started.

Main card featured the fight between Islam Makhachev and Bobby Green. Green was a late day replacement for the injured Beniel Dariush. While Makhachev is on a 10 fight winning spree – most of his wins, including last nights, came from beating unranked opponents.

After the fight Makhachev addressed the issue saying he’s heard Dariush might be ready to fight sometime soon so he’s eager to have the original headline fight rescheduled.

Among the biggest winners of the night are also Wellington Turman, Priscila Cachoeira and Ji Yeon Kim.

Turman scored Submission of the night having submitted Misha Cirkunov with a well timed armbar. This makes Turman $50,000 richer.

Priscila Cachoeira made her return to the cage after everyone was speculating she would be getting cut. She attempted to gauge the eyes of her opponent twice in order to get out of a submission during her last fight. She later claimed ‘it wasn’t intentional’.

Priscila Cachoeira and her opponent, Ji Yeon Kim, won fight of the night. They were each awarded $50,000. Cachoeira appeared to be behind on scorecards in round 2 – but rallied and scored a decision victory in the end.

Cachoeira and Ji Yeon Kim took a snap together on their way to the ER. Cachoeira first entered the UFC back in 2018. Her first opponent was Valentina Shevchenko – which turned out to be a lot for the Brazilian who had made her way through some local promotions with questionable matchmaking. Prior to her time in the UFC she revealed she was addicted to crack for four years.

Cachoeira was also awarded her bjj purple belt – in spite of the fight taking almost no time on the ground. While many questioned the decision to award Cachoeira the victory, prominent MMA fan Caposa explained on his social media:

“I don’t get the outrage. I had money on Kim for the record. Yes she picked Cachoeira apart for the majority of R3, but she spent the last 1:30 getting clubbed with elbows and busted up. They’re looking for fight changing damage. And remember immediate damage > cumulative damage.”

This victory makes Cachoeira’s run in the UFC 3-4. Her MMA record stands at 11 wins and 4 losses.
