(Video) Joe Rogan Claims He warned Tony Hinchcliffe Before Backlash Despite the Evidence To The Contrary

In a recent episode of his popular podcast, Joe Rogan addressed the controversy surrounding comedian Tony Hinchcliffe’s performance at Donald Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally. Rogan, who initially suggested Hinchcliffe write jokes for Trump’s rallies, found himself in a difficult position as he both defended and criticized his friend’s controversial remarks.

Hinchcliffe ignited a firestorm of criticism after making several offensive comments about different races and ethnicities, particularly targeting Puerto Ricans. The comedian referred to Puerto Rico, an American territory, as a “floating island of garbage” during the televised Republican event. This comment sparked outrage and led to prominent Puerto Rican entertainers, including Bad Bunny and Jennifer Lopez, expressing their support for Kamala Harris in response.

Rogan admitted that he had warned Hinchcliffe against using the Puerto Rico joke, telling him, “Don’t you dare do that joke.” He explained that while the joke typically performs well in comedy clubs, a political rally is “a bad environment for comedy.” Rogan took issue with former President Barack Obama’s recounting of the incident, arguing that it was presented out of context as a statement rather than a joke.

Despite his reservations about the joke itself, Rogan defended Hinchcliffe’s right to perform it and criticized the backlash as unfair. He compared the situation to taking a scene from a Quentin Tarantino movie out of context, emphasizing the importance of understanding the difference between comedic performance and genuine statements.

Rogan reiterated his advice to comedians, urging them never to perform comedy at events that are not specifically designed for stand-up. He stressed the potential pitfalls of mixing political rallies with comedic performances, highlighting the stark contrast between the two environments.

Looking ahead, Rogan predicted that the controversy will eventually “blow over,” as similar incidents have in the past. He acknowledged that Hinchcliffe is currently facing significant challenges but expressed confidence in his friend’s ability to weather the storm and ultimately “come back better.”
