BKFC star Mike Perry has found himself at the center of controversy following a recent incident in Lake County, Florida. The former UFC welterweight competitor was taken into custody last weekend on charges related to operating a vehicle while impaired.

A video of Perry’s encounter with law enforcement has since surfaced online, depicting a visibly agitated Perry reacting negatively to being handcuffed. The footage shows Perry using inappropriate language and claiming the officers were targeting him due to his celebrity status, stating, “They know exactly who I am.”
In response to the backlash, Perry issued an official statement apologizing for his behavior during the incident. However, the authenticity of the apology has been called into question by many online observers.

The statement read, in part: “I am writing this to express my deepest apologies for the inappropriate and disrespectful language I used towards members of the Clermont police department. I understand that my words were hurtful and offensive, and I sincerely regret my actions.”
Eagle-eyed fans quickly noticed peculiarities in the statement that suggested it may have been generated by an AI language model such as ChatGPT. One glaring oversight was the inclusion of a placeholder “[Police Department/Officers]” in the text, which Perry apparently failed to replace with the specific department involved in his arrest.
This low-effort approach to addressing the situation has led to further criticism of Perry, with many expressing disappointment in his handling of the aftermath.
Perry, who holds a 5-0 record in bare-knuckle boxing, last competed in July, facing off against Jake Paul in a boxing match. While he currently has no bouts scheduled, he is expected to return to the BKFC ring for his next appearance.
