Hip-hop veteran Xzibit has revealed an unexpected collaboration with UFC superstar Conor McGregor, who has ventured into the music industry by launching his own record label.
The “Pimp My Ride” star announced his first album release since 2012, titled “Kingmaker,” which features 20 tracks and will be released through McGregor’s new label venture.
“I haven’t put out a record since 2012, so it’s important for me to go into this knowing that I have to reintroduce myself to my fans and people who may not even know – the whole generation wasn’t even around,” Xzibit explained.
The partnership marks a significant milestone as Xzibit becomes one of the first artists signed to McGregor’s label. The rapper revealed that legendary group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony has also joined the roster, highlighting the label’s commitment to diverse musical genres.
Speaking about the unexpected collaboration, Xzibit shared his perspective on joining the new label: “I think it was attractive to me because we’re the first, there’s no level of expectation.”
He clarified that McGregor himself won’t be pursuing a musical career, stating, “He’s not rapping.” Instead, the Irish athlete has assembled a team of executives to manage the label’s investments and operations.
Reflecting on McGregor’s personality, Xzibit noted, “He’s him unapologetically… whether you love him or hate him, he shoots over people’s heads.” The rapper also addressed industry challenges, particularly age discrimination in hip-hop, stating, “You get past a certain age and then they tell you, you don’t belong.”
