Following his first-round TKO loss at XFC 52, former UFC heavyweight Alex Nicholson was involved in an altercation with a fan who apparently taunted him as he exited the arena.
The incident occurred shortly after Nicholson‘s co-main event bout against Darion Abbey ended in disappointment for the former UFC competitor. Abbey needed just over a minute to secure the stoppage victory, swarming Nicholson with punches against the cage to earn his third consecutive win.
As Nicholson made his way out of the venue during Abbey‘s in cage interview, footage shows him initially exchanging what appeared to be a cordial handshake with a spectator. However, the interaction quickly deteriorated.
According to witnesses, after the initial handshake, the fan directed provocative comments toward Nicholson. The heavyweight then turned back toward the spectator and threw several punches before security personnel intervened to separate them.
“You said this week you came in the best shape of your life, that Kill Cliff has completely revolutionized your training. It felt like all of that came together tonight, didn’t it?” an interviewer asked Abbey following his victory.
“100% man, especially the conditioning. I’ve leveled up, as you guys can see. Best friends I’ve ever had. Wrestling every day,” Abbey responded before the broadcast captured commotion in the background.
The loss to Abbey marks Nicholson‘s second consecutive defeat, following a first-round knockout against Frank Tate at Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA last November. Nicholson has competed across multiple organizations since his UFC tenure, which ended after a 1-3 run with the promotion.
It remains unclear whether the spectator involved will pursue legal action. Nicholson‘s contractual status with XFC has not been confirmed.
This isn’t the first time a high-profile MMA star has had a confrontation with fans. Recently, UFC featherweight contender Lerone Murphy was involved in a similar situation following his victory over Josh Emmett, though security prevented any physical altercation in that instance.
