(Video) UFC vet Brendan Schaub beat Thor Bjornsson and other strongmen in grip challenge

Former UFC star Brendan Schaub has raised eyebrows once again with his latest claim on social media, stating he outperformed two of the world’s strongest men in a grip strength contest.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Schaub declared: “Two of my boys happen to be the world’s strongest men. Challenged me to a grip strength contest. Game on.” He then listed the results, claiming Thor Bjornsson achieved 55 seconds, Mitchell Hooper managed 48 seconds, while Schaub himself lasted for one minute.

This new assertion drew scrutiny due to a growing list of questionable claims from the podcast host, who has recently been under scrutiny for inconsistencies in his statements about his exercise routine. In a recent 13-second video clip, Schaub contradicted himself about his training schedule, first stating he works out “every single day” before immediately revising it to “five days a week.”

Schaub’s athletic claims have faced challenges before, particularly when strongman Thor Bjornsson questioned his assertion of benching 225 pounds for 40 repetitions. Using the NFL combine calculation formula, this would translate to a one-rep maximum of 494.2 pounds – a remarkable figure considering Bjornsson, a world-renowned strongman, suffered an injury attempting 556.7 pounds.

The former athlete’s professional background includes going undrafted in the 2006 NFL Draft and brief stints with the Utah Blaze in the Arena Football League. Records show he was released in November 2006 without making the roster, and though re-signed in February 2007, was waived just two days later.

Unlike Schaub’s many different claims, this one might actually be substantiated considering all three were present and using the same rig. Thor Bjornsson was even among the first to acknowledge Schaub outperforming him commenting ‘Damn you crushed it! ‘ to the clip of the three competing.
