In a stunning display that left combat sports fans bewildered, a Romanian MMA promotion, Real Xtreme Fighting, orchestrated one of the most unusual matches in the sport’s history. The spectacle featured two professional heavyweight athletes facing off against ten amateur competitors simultaneously in the octagon.
The unprecedented matchup, which took place in Bradov, saw the smaller-built amateurs employ group tactics to challenge their larger opponents. Despite their strategic approach, the professionals demonstrated their superior experience, methodically handling their numerous adversaries.
The bout featured several dramatic moments, including a sequence where the amateurs managed to floor one of the professionals. After catching him off-guard with a powerful right hand while his back was turned, they followed up with a series of strikes on the ground. However, the professional managed to recover from this onslaught.
Social media erupted with reactions to the unusual contest. “This is pure madness. What his happening?!” wrote one viewer on X. Another questioned, “How do these get sanctioned?” while a third celebrated, “We live in the best era in history.”
One enthusiast shared their perspective: “You know, I’ve always thought it would be interesting to see a tag team MMA match. This is pretty much what I expected, and I love it.”
The match concluded in the final moments of the second round when the referee stopped the action as several amateurs began retreating from their larger opponents. The two professionals were declared victors.
This event follows a trend of unconventional matchups in European MMA promotions. In December, a similar situation occurred in Poland when Alan Kwiencinsk missed his weight target by over seven pounds, resulting in him competing against both his scheduled opponent, Amadeusz ‘Ferrari’ Roslik, and Roslik’s father, Dariusz ‘Old Ferrari’.
The situation even caught the attention of UFC middleweight Bo Nickal, who playfully suggested implementing similar rules in the UFC regarding weight miss penalties.
The spectacle adds to a growing list of unique contests in the sport, including a June event where former World’s Strongest Man Eddie Hall participated in a handicap match against the Neffati Brothers, which concluded with Hall emerging victorious.
