(Video) Runner finishes last in 400m sprint after major wardrobe malfunction

At the World Athletics U20 Championships in Cali, Colombia, Italian athlete Alberto Nonino faced an unexpected challenge during the 400m decathlon event that left spectators seeing more than they anticipated.

The promising young athlete, who started strong in the middle lane, began to display unusual movements mid-race, repeatedly attempting to adjust his shorts while maintaining his stride. What initially appeared as simple discomfort was later revealed to be a significant wardrobe malfunction.

Sports journalist David Sanchez de Castro provided clarity on the situation: “Perhaps I’ve explained myself poorly. His p*nis escaped out of the side of his shorts and he had to hold it because it wasn’t allowing him to run properly which is normal when your dongle is swinging from side to side.”

Despite being near the front of the pack at the race’s start, Nonino’s performance was severely impacted by the wardrobe issue. As the athletes rounded the final corner, he had fallen to the back of the group, ultimately finishing last with a time of 51.57 seconds.

Following the incident, which gained widespread attention on social media, Nonino addressed the situation on Instagram: “I just want to talk to you a little bit about the rumpus there’s been on blogs and social media in general. I’m conscious it was obviously an accident and I’d like to tell you I’m aware of the reaction and you don’t need to send me the links to the blogs out there.”

He added, “I’m trying to laugh about it now but immediately afterwards I felt terrible and I’m thankful to my friends and family for helping me get over what happened a few hours later.”

The athlete also expressed concern about the media coverage, stating: “The journalistic world worries about cases of bullying throughout Italy and around the world and then publishes these articles that for a more sensitive person could have done a lot of harm.”

The decathlon, which includes ten events spread across two days – including 100m sprint, long jump, shot-put, high jump, 400m run, 110m hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1,500m run – continued despite the unexpected incident.
