Islam Makhachev is a UFC lightweight contender who is anxiously awaiting his title shot at UFC 280. The Dagestani has been undefeated since he joined UFC in 2015. Makhachev is an incredible grappler with a background in combat sambo under the infamous Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.
“ Islam gonna ride Charles Oliveira like his horse. We’re gonna take this belt. We’re gonna show them. If somebody was easy, it would be called jujitsu and we’re gonna go on with the belt.” Khabib Nurmagomedov voiced his support for longtime friend Islam Makhachev.
“he never say my name, you know? He say Dustin Poirier, but he never say my name. Nate Diaz, he called [out] Nate Diaz. He called [out] Conor [McGregor] many times, but never said my name.”
“He knows it’s gonna be — I am hard fight for everybody because I have always same plan: take them down, hold him there, [smash]. I am terrible” Makhachev added in a recent interview with ESPN.
And while people might think this is a metaphor – it’s actually not. Makhachev is a prolific rider.
Islam Makhachev has a long winning spree but has struggled to get himself booked against a ranked opponent for a very long time. Makhachev also happens to be an expert in horse riding and taming horses. Recently a video of Makhachev interacting with horses went viral.
Islam Makhachev is scheduled to face Charles Oliveira for the vacant UFC lightweight title in October. UFC will return to Abu Dhabi for the UFC 280 event, which will be headlined by Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira.
