(Video) Ian Garry confronts fan who trash talked his wife in front of him before UFC 298

Ian Machado Garry recently competed in a high-stakes clash with the No. 8 ranked welterweight contender, Geoff Neal. He competed on Saturday, February 17, at the much-anticipated UFC 298 main card. Garry ended up winning via split decision.

The weigh-in ceremony before the match at Anaheim’s Honda Center took an unexpected turn for Garry. On his way out, a bold fan made derogatory remarks about his spouse Layla Machado Garry.

This triggered a fiery response from the Irish MMA rising star. “You talking sh*t about my wife? Don’t f*cking do that,” he sternly warned before eventually stepping into his vehicle.

Garry found himself in the spotlight as he had to defend his marriage to Layla Machado Garry, a 40-year-old TV personality. Accusations were made by combatants like Sean Strickland and Colby Covington that Ian Garry’s wife was still having an affair with her ex-husband Richard Cullen. The ex-husband also happens to be Garry’s nutritionist.

In the face of these allegations, Garry vehemently denied any wrongdoing. He clarified that adopting his wife’s maiden name was a choice made to ensure that his son and Layla’s son (from her previous marriage with Cullen) share the same last name.

Stepping back into the cage with an impeccable record in his mixed martial arts career, Garry ended up defeating Neal via split decision. He improved his MMA record to 14-0, with seven victories under the UFC banner. Before that, he appeared at UFC 292 with a resounding unanimous decision victory over welterweight veteran Neil Magny.

Originally set to face Geoff Neal at a prior event, Garry faced a setback as Neal withdrew. However, the lead-up to their scheduled bout garnered attention for unconventional reasons. Garry sparked controversy by wearing and selling t-shirts featuring Neal’s 2021 mugshot.
