While the internet wasn’t too far off with the estimate, Chimaev is definitely more true to image when he’s sporting a full bush beard.

The chinstrap type beard he sports is tied to his religion.

There are several Hadith passages that tell us the reason why Muhammad shaved off his mustache and let his beard grow, and why he told his followers to do so as well. This is one of them:

Sahih Muslim Volume 1, Book 2, Hadith 501—Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) said: Trim closely the mustache, and grow beard, and thus act against the fire-worshippers.

Interestingly Muhammad also encouraged his disciples to dye their beards, however this isn’t particularly common nowadays.

Sahih al-Bukhari Vol. 4, Book 56, Hadith 668—Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle said, “The Jews and the Christians do not dye their grey hair, so you shall do the opposite of what they do.”
