In an astounding display of physical endurance and mental fortitude, former Call of Duty world champion Doug ‘Censor’ Martin has shattered the Guinness World Record for the most pull-ups completed in a 24-hour period. Martin, an accomplished esports competitor, executed an incredible 9,250 pull-ups in just over 20 hours, surpassing the previous record with hours to spare.
The feat, which took place on September 7th, was the culmination of a year-long journey for Martin. He had been meticulously documenting his training process on social media, sharing both the triumphs and challenges he faced along the way. Followers witnessed his physical transformation as he racked up tens of thousands of pull-ups in preparation for the big day.
Martin’s journey to break the record began in July 2023 when he attempted his first pull-up challenge, live-streaming the event to his followers. Despite his initial confidence, he faced unexpected difficulties around the three-hour mark. “I started to develop a level of physical, mental, and emotional pain that I never imagined feeling,” Martin shared on social media. “My hands were bleeding from everywhere, my legs were sore from simply jumping slightly, and my right shoulder was tearing every minute I jumped to do a pull-up.”
The previous record stood at 8,940 pull-ups, held by Kenta Adachi of Japan. Before that, Australian-born Jaxon Italiano had performed 8,008 pull-ups in 24 hours. Interestingly, Italiano had been assisting Martin with his training leading up to the record-breaking attempt.
During the official world record attempt, Guinness World Records invigilators were present to ensure each repetition met the mandated standards. Each pull-up had to begin from a dead hang position with arms fully extended and end with Martin’s chin passing above the bar.
Not only did Martin achieve a personal goal, but he also used the opportunity to make a positive impact. His efforts raised thousands of dollars for Project Purple, a charity dedicated to pancreatic cancer research and patient support.
Martin surpassed the previous record around the 19-hour mark, with five hours still remaining on the clock. He continued to perform hundreds of additional repetitions but ultimately decided to stop with almost three hours left, citing concerns about potential injury.

The physical toll of the challenge was evident in the images Martin shared on social media shortly after his achievement, revealing his heavily calloused hands. Despite the grueling nature of the feat, Martin has previously stated that his ultimate goal is to perform 11,111 pull-ups in 24 hours, leaving fans wondering if he will attempt to break his own record in the future.
