Chaos erupted at a prestigious youth boxing championship when an enraged coach launched a surprise attack on the referee. According to sources, it sparked a massive brawl that overshadowed what should have been a celebration of young athletic talent.
The disturbing incident unfolded at the EUBC Schoolboys and Schoolgirls European Boxing Championships in Zlatibor, Serbia, during a match between Serbian boxer Viktor Majstorovic and Azerbaijani competitor Yusif Aghakisiyev in the 75kg category. The tournament, designed to showcase the skills of 13 and 14-year-old boxers from across Europe, quickly descended into mayhem.
According to reports from local outlet Informer, tensions reached a boiling point when Aghakisiyev received a warning from referee Stefan Cubalevski for repeated fouls. The Azerbaijani boxer’s coach became visibly incensed by the official’s decision, setting the stage for an unprecedented breach of sporting conduct.
Video footage of the incident reveals the coach charging into the ring with alarming aggression, immediately targeting the unsuspecting referee. The coach pushed Cubalevski forcefully in the back, causing the official to stumble forward in obvious confusion as he turned to face his unexpected attacker.
What followed was even more surprise. The enraged coach grabbed the referee around the neck, placing him in a chokehold while dragging him toward the edge of the ring. The disturbing scene showed a complete abandonment of the respect and discipline that boxing demands, particularly at a youth event where young athletes look to adults as role models.
The situation rapidly spiraled out of control as multiple bystanders and officials rushed into the ring to intervene. What began as one man’s loss of composure quickly transformed into a chaotic melee involving numerous participants. Team members and tournament officials worked frantically to separate the combatants and restore order to the venue.
The consequences were swift and decisive. Both Aghakisiyev and his coach faced immediate disqualification from the tournament, ending the young boxer’s championship hopes due to his coach’s reckless actions. The European Boxing Confederation has announced it will thoroughly review the incident to determine what additional sanctions may be appropriate for the coach’s conduct.
The European Boxing Confederation now faces the challenge of addressing this incident while reinforcing the importance of proper conduct at all levels of competition.
