Russell Brand is scheduled to moderate a panel discussion at this week’s Make America Healthy Again summit, despite facing serious criminal charges in the United Kingdom and a trial date that looms just days after the event.
The panel set for Tuesday at the second annual MAHA gathering, will feature Dr. Mehmet Oz, President Donald Trump’s administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. He will appear alongside Chris Klomp, chief counselor at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
British authorities have charged the comedian and commentator with three counts of [ ], three counts of SA, and one count of indecent assault. The charges stem from allegations by six women concerning incidents said to have occurred between 1999 and 2009. Brand has pleaded not guilty to all charges and maintains he has never engaged in non-consensual activity.
Washington Post reporter Dan Diamond brought attention to the upcoming panel in a social media post. He stated that Brand who was awaiting trial in London would moderate a discussion concerning reform of a U.S. health agency.
The decision to feature Brand as moderator has raised eyebrows given the timing and gravity of the charges he faces. British authorities began investigating him in 2023, and he was subsequently charged and granted conditional bail.
The legal proceedings represent a dramatic turn for the British entertainer, who has reinvented himself in recent years as a political commentator and more recently as a Christian convert.
Earlier in 2026, Brand acknowledged having consensual relations with a 16-year-old girl when he was 30 years old. He characterized that relationship as “exploitative,” citing the age and power imbalance involved.
In an interview with Megyn Kelly, Brand discussed the relationship, noting that the age of consent in the U.K. is 16 and describing himself as “a very different person” at that time in his life.
The MAHA summit will also feature appearances by other notable figures, including former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson and Cheryl Hines, who is married to HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Brand’s recent conversion to Christianity has become a central part of his public persona, although the timing of his newfound faith has drawn scrutiny from some observers. His legal troubles first became public in 2023, with his embrace of Christianity following relatively soon afterward.
That timing came under particular scrutiny during an interview with Piers Morgan, who questioned Brand about whether his conversion was genuine or motivated by the allegations against him.
Morgan suggested that some people viewed Brand as a grifter who had turned to Christianity seven months after the allegations became public as a way of providing some kind of cover.
Morgan stated, “I’m saying, you know, there are people who think you’re basically just a massive grifter. ”
At one point, Brand grew increasingly frustrated with Morgan’s line of questioning. He pushed back against the suggestion that his faith was motivated by self-interest.
Brand told Morgan, “I think you’re cynical about human beings. I think you’re cynical about yourself.” When Morgan challenged the remark, Brand doubled down adding, “I don’t think you believe that you’re capable of greatness.”
Perhaps most revealingly, Brand addressed the timing of his conversion directly. “In this horror of this time where the worst things that could be said about a man were said about me. And while my son was having surgery,” he explained, “the most graceful and beautiful things happened in my life. I felt whole and I felt loved and I felt everything’s going to be all right.”
