In a sequence that overshadowed the upcoming Joe Joyce vs. Filip Hrgovic bout, heavyweight contender Jeamie Tshikeva, known as Jeamie TKV, lost his composure and flipped a table during a heated exchange with rival David Adeleye at Manchester’s Co-Op Live final press conference.
The incident occurred after approximately ten minutes of increasingly hostile verbal exchanges between the British heavyweights, who are set to clash on the Joyce-Hrgovic undercard. Security personnel quickly intervened to prevent physical confrontation as microphones and drinks went flying, with other boxers at the table scrambling for cover.
This wasn’t the first sign of tension between the pair. Earlier in the week, the fighters and their entourages had already clashed at TalkSport’s studios, setting the stage for Wednesday’s more explosive confrontation.
Adeleye, who remained on stage after the commotion while TKV was removed and didn’t return for the face-off, later explained what triggered his opponent’s outburst.
“I cussed his weight, I cussed his appearance and he’s obviously insecure about it,” Adeleye said. “After TalkSport you were all waiting for me outside. You’re punks.”
TKV, who has sparred with two-time champion Anthony Joshua, had earlier questioned Adeleye’s courage: “I don’t know where this gangster stuff comes from. You’re taking it personally that I’ve taken this fight? I see a scared man. I know when I see a scared man. You’re scared.”
He added, “You just tried to pull up in my face. You tried to flex your muscles in my face. Do you want me to get personal? You didn’t want to take this fight. I had to ring you and make sure you took it.”
Adeleye countered with his own accusations, saying, “You were sucking my bum telling me I was the truth.” He then began pounding the table and repeatedly declaring himself “The Truth,” shouting, “I’m the truth, I’m the truth, you see, trust me Jamie, I’m the truth bro, trust me bro, I really live it, trust me Jamie.”
As the shouting reached its peak with both men talking over each other, TKV suddenly lost control, sending the table airborne and forcing security into immediate action.
Promoter Frank Warren, who had been watching the escalating situation alongside the other fighters, later commented on the explosive confrontation: “I’m hoping the fight is as lively as this was.”
Adeleye is making his second attempt at the prestigious British heavyweight title, a championship that has been held by some of boxing’s greatest names.
The actual bout, scheduled for Manchester’s Co-Op Live arena, now carries even greater anticipation following this dramatic press conference climax.
