UFC’s Casey Kenney arrested on kidnapping and assault charges

UFC bantamweight Casey Kenney has been arrested in his home state of Arizona on charges of kidnapping and assault. The news, first reported by MMA reporter J. Torres, has sent ripples through the mixed martial arts community.

According to the information obtained from the Arizona government website, Kenney, who stands at 5-foot-6 and weighs 150 pounds, was arrested on August 16th. The specific details of the incident are still emerging, but the charges he is facing are severe.

The arrest comes on the heels of a recent domestic violence claim made by Kenney’s ex-girlfriend’s mother. In a series of social media posts, the mother shared her account of the incident, which allegedly occurred on July 22nd, 2024. She claimed that Kenney had “barricaded himself in his home” and that her daughter was found “all bloody, shirt torn off, barefooted” after the altercation.

The mother’s posts also indicated that the police had conducted a wellness check at Kenney’s residence, but no arrests were made at the time. However, it appears that the investigation has now led to Kenney’s arrest on the charges of kidnapping and assault with intent or reckless to injure.

Kenney, who is 16-4-1 as a professional MMA fighter, has not competed in the UFC since his split-decision loss to Song Yadong at UFC 265 in August 2021. Prior to that, he had a split-decision loss to Dominick Cruz at UFC 259. Despite his recent legal troubles, Kenney has had a successful career in the sport, with wins over notable opponents such as Nathaniel Wood, Alateng Heili, Louis Smolaka, Manny Bermudez, and Ray Borg.

As the investigation continues, the MMA community will be closely following the developments in this case. The allegations against Kenney are serious, and the outcome of the legal proceedings will have a significant impact on his future in the sport.
