In a notable development at the 2025 Women’s All-Stars Tournament, Syracuse rugby player Camille Wilt has been named to the All-Tournament team, joining 11 other athletes in receiving this recognition.
Wilt, who plays for the Upstate New York All-Stars, made a significant impact during the tournament, contributing 40 points of the team’s total 89 points. The Upstate NY All-Stars finished seventh in the 10-team tournament, securing a 1-3 record in pool play before claiming victory over the Great Waters All-Stars in a consolation match.
The selection was made under the National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) guidelines, which allow participation based on specific criteria. According to NCR’s official policy, players must provide “evidence of a medical prescription, and evidence that they have completed one year of hormone treatment related to gender transition before competing in the Qualifying Match.”
The NCR emphasizes its commitment to inclusion in its guidelines, stating, “The legal and compliance issues surrounding the rights and understanding of the experience of transgendered athletes are constantly changing, but the commitment of NCR to non-discrimination and inclusion will not.”
While Syracuse University, being a private institution, maintains its own policies regarding athletic participation, the broader conversation about sports inclusion continues to evolve at both institutional and national levels. The tournament’s outcome has sparked discussions about athletic opportunities and competition policies in collegiate rugby.
The All-Tournament team recognition reflects Wilt’s performance during the competition, where the Upstate NY All-Stars competed against teams from various regions across the country.
