Professor Dave Explains has weighed in on the growing backlash surrounding Joe Rogan and his circle of comedians after YouTube channel Elephant Graveyard released a video examining the comedian’s rise to power and his connections to wealthy and influential figures.
In a reaction video, the science communicator discussed Elephant Graveyard’s “How Comedy Drowned in a Radioactive Cesspool of Corruption and Depravity” which reportedly amassed 6 million views. According to Professor Dave, the video has struck a nerve among comedians associated with Rogan, with some seemingly struggling to deal with the criticism.
Dave described the reaction as comedians mental breakdowns over the video. He said, “I’ve seen handfuls of clips kind of around YouTube where all of the comedians in the Rogansphere are just like having total mental breakdowns and like whining about Elephant Graveyard.”
The investigation goes beyond comedy, examining Rogan’s relationships with billionaire Peter Thiel, members of the Bilderberg Group, and individuals connected to Jeffrey Epstein. It questions how a podcast host who spent years warning listeners about powerful elites and secretive networks came to associate with some of the same figures.
Peter Thiel’s Connection to Joe Rogan
One of the central subjects of the Elephant Graveyard investigation is Rogan’s relationship with Peter Thiel, the billionaire co-founder of Palantir who has attended Bilderberg Group meetings.
The video examines how Thiel gained access to Rogan’s enormous audience, highlighting what it portrays as a contradiction between Rogan’s long-standing criticism of elite networks and his willingness to host influential figures without extensively challenging them.
According to the investigation, exclusive gatherings described as “power dinners” helped facilitate these connections. Rogan can be seen saying in a video, “Peter Thiel had a party at his house and invited me over as well. He has these power dinners and power lessons. They’re really cool.”
Eric Weinstein, a Thiel associate reportedly acted as an intermediary, introducing Rogan to this social circle. The prospect of meeting intriguing guests, including ancient alien theorist Erich von Däniken, allegedly helped draw Rogan further into that world.
The video argues that Rogan subsequently became a defender of Thiel and others in his orbit, despite his previous warnings about the influence of wealthy elites.
The Epstein Connection and Rogan’s Response
The investigation also examines the connections between figures in Rogan’s circle and convicted offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Rogan himself reportedly appears in the Epstein files because he declined an invitation to meet him. However, the video draws attention to other prominent figures who maintained relationships with Epstein after his 2008 conviction.
Thiel is a particular focus. According to the investigation, he exchanged more than 2,000 emails with Epstein, who also invested $40 million with him after Epstein’s arrest for soliciting minors.
When asked about the relationship during an appearance on Rogan’s podcast, Thiel reportedly suggested that he had assumed Epstein’s relatively light sentence meant the allegations had been exaggerated.
Elephant Graveyard characterizes this explanation as a “whoopsie,” criticizing the casual manner in which the relationship was addressed. The video showed Peter Thiel defending Epstein, saying, “Now, you assume he didn’t go to jail for that long, right? It was probably not not as serious as alleged, right?”
Professor Dave argues that Rogan’s response was inconsistent with his previous criticism of people who maintained connections with Epstein.
He summed up what he sees as a double standard among Rogan’s associates:
“They make such a big deal about joke theft and calling everybody snowflakes and crybabies, and then when their situation is called out, they have total mental breakdowns. The fragility is merging with the community that worships them,” Dave stated.
For Dave, the reaction illustrates how comedians who readily criticize others can become defensive when the scrutiny turns toward their own circle.
From Comedy Store Outsider to Austin Power Broker
The Elephant Graveyard video also revisits Rogan’s early career, arguing that his experiences at the Comedy Store in the 1990s helped shape his current outlook.
According to the investigation, Rogan felt excluded from the established comedy scene, which he has repeatedly described as a “walled garden.” His public confrontation with Carlos Mencia over allegations of joke theft became a defining moment in his career.
The video suggests that the dispute was not simply about protecting comedic integrity but also about challenging the established hierarchy and gaining entry into an industry that had previously shut him out.
Rogan eventually built a platform of his own, transforming his podcast into one of the most influential shows in the world. He later established a powerful comedy scene in Austin, Texas, attracting comedians who benefit from their association with him.
In this interpretation, Rogan has gone from challenging the comedy establishment to occupying a position of influence similar to the one he once criticized.
The investigation also explores the relationship between Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos and the Rogan comedy circle, particularly through a comedy special featuring Tony Hinchcliffe.
Elephant Graveyard suggests that Netflix’s decision to give Hinchcliffe a special may have helped the company appeal to Rogan’s audience and associates amid regulatory scrutiny. Sarandos had faced questions from senators about Netflix’s content, including criticism from opposing sides of the political debate.
Is Joe Rogan Losing His Influence?
Professor Dave believes Rogan’s dominance could gradually weaken, although he does not expect the change to happen overnight.
“Joe’s like a large ship,” Dave explained. “Like it’s going to slowly hemorrhage viewership over years. I don’t think it’s something that can implode on a dime. I feel like it’s kind of not a final chapter, but I think it’s going downhill for him for sure. ”
The assessment suggests that Rogan’s influence may erode gradually rather than collapse following a single controversy. The investigation portrays him as increasingly defensive about criticism, while questioning whether his anti-establishment image remains consistent with his relationships and public positions.
Why Elephant Graveyard’s Videos Are Resonating
For Professor Dave, the appeal of Elephant Graveyard’s work lies partly in how it presents its arguments.
Rather than relying solely on conventional reporting, the channel combines music, editing, and narrative storytelling to connect events, public statements, and relationships. Dave believes this approach can make complicated subjects more accessible and leave a stronger impression on viewers.
“Art is the best way to change people’s minds about things,” Dave noted. “These are pieces of art that hold important truths about how the media landscape is being manipulated.”
The videos in his view demonstrate how creative storytelling can be used to challenge powerful public figures and examine the relationships behind their influence.
