Former heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem has returned to consuming meat after previously claiming parasites were influencing his cravings, according to his recent statements.
In a new clip on his social media, Overeem revealed he now eats meat “three to four times, maybe five” per week, marking a significant shift from his previous stance on meat consumption. This comes after his earlier claims about parasites affecting his dietary preferences.
The Dutch athlete had previously explained his unusual eating patterns, stating, “Um, my diet, my appetite changed, so I usually ate steak at eight o’clock in the morning, and I just felt like steak at eight o’clock in the morning. That was like a standard thing. So, and then I was like, ‘Yeah, I don’t—I’m full. I don’t want to eat this anymore.'”
According to Overeem, his nutritionist Julian had attributed these cravings to parasites. “When I spoke to Julian, I asked him, ‘Um, what’s happening? My, my, my—I don’t want to eat my steak anymore, and I want to eat my steak because I want to build muscles,'” Overeem had shared. Julian reportedly explained that supplements, particularly seaweed, created an alkaline environment that eliminated these parasites.
Now, the 44-year-old has adapted his post-workout nutrition routine, explaining, “So the best post-workout meal, what I would take was always a green shake or a red shake and then that would be directly after the workout and then afterwards I would go to a restaurant and get some meat or fish, some proper protein in.”
Throughout his career, he has held championships in multiple major organizations, facing notable opponents such as Brock Lesnar, Fabricio Werdum, Frank Mir, and Junior dos Santos.
Overeem is still flirting with pseudo-science in a big way. Earlier last month, he likened Ramadan as a tool for mental and physical reset, emphasizing digital detox to enhance its benefits despite not being Muslim in a podcast co-starring Wim Hof. However, both figures face scrutiny—Overeem for his polarizing views on gender and Hof for his past struggles with abuse.
As a reminder, Overeem at one point claimed he could cure his daughter’s gender confusion with a proper diet.
“The problem is with the oldest daughter. She thinks she is my son, she’s all into this woke nonsense…If it was not sad it would be happy, funny actually… She thinks she’s a man… Why? She’s ad dicted to her phone she’s being brainwashed basically six seven eight hours a day…I’m not going to call her a he!”
