The boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya is known for his remarkable rise to fame, winning Olympic gold and world titles in six weight classes. However, his journey hasn’t been without its share of scandals and controversies. In a new, two-part documentary titled ‘The Golden Boy,’ De La Hoya finally addresses the infamous photos of his crossdressing, where he was pictured in fishnets, a tutu, and high heels.
“The world fell in love with my story… but it was a lie,” De La Hoya admits in the documentary. “I’ve never told anybody what really happened.”
The photos, released in 2007 by model and exotic dancer Milana Dravnel, caused a media frenzy. For years, De La Hoya insisted they were fake, but in 2011, he confessed that the photos were indeed real.
“I’m glad I said they were real, because it set me free,” De La Hoya told club shay shay. “Really? Oh, yeah. Yeah, they’re out there 15 years ago, so what? I mean, what? I bet if I asked 30 people here, 20 of them say, yeah, I’ve worn something from a woman. In closed doors. That’s what happens. Mine just came out publicly.”
The Golden Boy documentary delves into De La Hoya’s remarkable rise and fall, exploring the challenges of life in the spotlight and the impact of fame and fortune. “There was nobody bigger, I was hanging out with beautiful women… I felt like a star,” he recalls. “The golden left hook, the golden story. but the truth always comes out. I knew it would come back to haunt me.”

De La Hoya’s professional career spanned 16 years and 45 fights, and by the age of 24, he was earning $20 million per fight. However, as he reflects, “Money changes everything… my dream became a nightmare.”
