Oscar De La Hoya, the 11-time world champion and Olympic gold medalist, regularly surprises his fans with a shirtless video showcasing his ripped physique during a Christmas day sparring session. However, the impressive six-pack abs sparked speculation and allegations that De La Hoya might have undergone plastic surgery to achieve such a toned physique at the age of 50.
Abdominal implants, a controversial and somewhat jarring cosmetic procedure, were initially rumored to be the reason behind De La Hoya’s chiseled abs. However, his girlfriend, Holly Sonders, set the record straight, revealing that the boxer had undergone a procedure called “ab etching.”
“And to set the record straight…he got ab etching. No implants. These are his abs, just defined by a great surgeon!” Sonders commented on a revealing picture of De La Hoya.
De La Hoya himself addressed the allegations, clarifying the process and emphasizing the authenticity of his abs. “They’re not fake abs. You cannot get fake abs, but it’s called etching. Where the plastic surgeon goes in, it’s kind of like liposuction, but he etches your abs. My abs are already there. They’re just etching it in between so they can just pop out more and stand out more. That’s all it is.”
The former boxer acknowledged the responsibility of maintaining his newfound physique, stating, “Now it’s up to me to keep these abs because I’ve got to work out, I’ve got to eat right. They’re mine. They’re real.”
Expressing excitement about the possibility of achieving an even more defined midsection, De La Hoya confidently added to Club Shay Shay, “I’ll have a 12-pack. You will be 75 years old.”
While the use of cosmetic procedures remains a controversial topic in the sports world, De La Hoya’s openness about the ab etching procedure sheds light on the lengths some athletes are willing to go to maintain a competitive edge, even after retirement.
