Muhammad Ali grandson loses MMA debut via submission

Biaggio Ali Walsh is brother to boxer Nico Walsh and a grandson of one of the greatest boxers of all time – Muhammad Ali.

Biaggio opted to try his hand at mixed martial arts following a stint in college football. The 23 year old still wants to finish college but is putting in time at Xtreme Couture MMA gym.

Last night he made his debut on the Fusion Fight League’s Rumble Under the Rims card against another MMA debutant – Devin Rothwell.

“I have been training MMA for a total of about two, two-and-a-half years now. COVID hit shortly after I began training so there was obviously a little delay but I worked out in the garage during that time.

“After college football I felt very lost and didn’t like where my life was heading. Pursuing MMA makes me feel more emotionally, spiritually, physically, and mentally positive,” Biaggio told FITE prior

Biaggio Ali Walsh looked solid during the opening round, managed to thwart a couple takedowns and get up and showcase major strength in the clinch.

According to reports, his brother was there watching the whole thing. Sadly the debut didn’t go Ali’s way. In round two he was getting winded, and his opponent started gaining ground on him.

He was taken down and was unable to defend Rothwell’s takedowns. Ultimately Rothwell spun a successful takedown into a submission attempt that was successful. Biaggio Ali Walsh succumbed to the rear naked choke and tapped with a minute remaining in the second round.

Fusion Fight League was on a Fite PPV – no video of the submission is available yet. We will update the article when it becomes available.
