McGregor’s Coach Slams Breakdancer After Viral Performance and Claims That Criticism is Sexist

The Olympic debut of breakdancing in Paris ignited heated discussions, particularly surrounding Australia’s Rachael “Raygun” Gunn.

Gunn, a 36-year-old university lecturer with a PhD in breakdancing, faced intense scrutiny after her routine left audiences bewildered. Described as a mix of kangaroo hops and T-Rex imitations, her performance sparked a wave of online ridicule. The Australian breakdancer failed to score any points in her round-robin battles, a result that quickly made her the subject of numerous jokes across social media.

However, the backlash wasn’t limited to her technique. Many critics took aim at her appearance, drawing attention to her Olympic uniform in what some described as a shallow critique. In response, Gunn fiercely defended herself, calling out the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for its decision to drop breakdancing from the 2028 Games in Los Angeles. Her frustration was palpable as she lashed out at the criticism she believed was rooted more in sexism than in genuine concern for the sport.

Australia’s chef de mission, Anna Meares, stepped in to defend Gunn, condemning the comments as reflective of the misogynistic attitudes that female athletes have battled for generations.

‘Now you look at the history of what we have had as women athletes, have faced in terms of criticism, belittlement, judgement, and simple comments like ‘they shouldn’t be there’,’ she said

‘Saying the criticism of Raygun (can’t even believe I am typing that name!) is sexism = peanut. A total copout!’ posted one X user.

‘Interesting deflection… Instead of owning for their mistake and shortfall in the selection methodology, she decided to go down the line of sexism. From what I read, couldn’t see anyone engaging in that. Very weak response from Australia’s Chef de mission,’ posted another.

‘No sexism here. She just sucked. If a guy did that same dance, world would say the same thing,’ replied another.

MCGregor’s Coach Kavanagh tweeted: “Really are living in the strangest times, the death of meritocracy. First off a PhD of breakdancing?? PhD?? What a joke. Then she puts on a performance you’d expect in a Will Ferrell movie and we’ve to pretend it’s amazing. Absolute 🤡 🌎 we’re living in”

Meanwhile UFC fans pointed out that Australia should’ve just sent in Volkanovski. The former P2P UFC champ famously broke out some cool moves during a guest appearance on a TV show.
