Max Holloway announces wife has adopted son, biological mother releases her own statement

UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway has shared deeply personal news about his family, announcing that his wife Alessa Quizon has officially adopted his son Rush. Known for keeping his private life away from the spotlight, Holloway made an exception to celebrate what he called “the hardest fight of my life.”

In an emotional social media post, Holloway revealed that the adoption comes after five years of custody proceedings that have now concluded. “Rush has voiced many times on how he wanted Alessa to adopt him. Yesterday, Alessa got to adopt Rush as his legal mother,” the champion wrote.

The announcement highlighted the significant role Quizon has played in Rush’s life. Holloway expressed profound gratitude to his wife, stating: “Thank you to my wife @alessaquizon for doing more than stepping up. For coming in and accepting rush as your own. Thank you for holding rush together as a mother would, helping me make our son’s dreams come. Thank you for pouring in all of your love and energy into completing our family.”

Quizon responded with her own heartfelt message directly to Rush, making promises about their future together. “You never deserved to be neglected and have to pick up those broken pieces on your own. You never deserved to be heartbroken. You never deserved that kind of love. That’s why I promise to always be there for you. To help dad raise you into a strong young man, a path you are already on,” she wrote, signing the post simply as “Mom.”

The celebration took on a more complex tone when Rush’s biological mother, Kaimana Pa’aluhi, shared her perspective on the situation. Pa’aluhi described her experience over the past five years as particularly challenging, stating: “For 5 years, I battled relentlessly while my name and my motherhood were dragged through the mud.”

Pa’aluhi’s response revealed the emotional toll the custody proceedings took on her personally. She described how family and friends supported her through difficult periods, mentioning that loved ones “held me together, wiped my tears, and stood by me at every court hearing” and “carried me through the months when anxiety and depression kept me shut away.”

Despite the circumstances, Pa’aluhi maintained a tone of grace in her statement, saying she continues to send love to the family and expressing hope for her son’s wellbeing. “I pray they care for my baby boy, because she has just been handed the greatest gift she will ever receive. You’re welcome,” she wrote.

The biological mother also questioned the nature of the victory, asking: “You may believe you’ve won. But who truly won here? Not me. Not you. And certainly not our son.”

For Holloway, the adoption represents the completion of a long journey that prioritized his son’s wishes. The fighter emphasized that Rush had consistently expressed his desire for this outcome, and described the resolution as allowing his son to “finally got to choose and keep the mom that he deserves.”
