In a pointed social media post, Georgian reporter Giorgi Kokiashvili has expressed his disappointment regarding amateur MMA star Magdi Amachov’s decision to help train Umar Nurmagomedov for his upcoming fight against Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 311.
The controversy stems from Amachov’s previous close relationship with Dvalishvili, who had provided significant support to the Dagestani fighter during his time in the United States. According to Kokiashvili, Dvalishvili had offered Amachov free accommodation in his own home when the amateur was struggling to find housing.
“This pic broke my heart a little bit,” Kokiashvili wrote, referring to an image showing Amachov training with Nurmagomedov. “Merab helped Magdi to live like a human being in the US. He didn’t have a home and Merab gave him a room for free in his own house and helped a lot. It’s just sad.”

The situation has sparked debate within the MMA community about loyalty versus national ties, as Amachov and Nurmagomedov share Dagestani heritage. The amateur, who holds a 2-1 record in amateur competition, had previously shown public support for Dvalishvili, even celebrating the Georgian’s UFC championship victory with a heartfelt social media post.

Kokiashvili drew attention to what he perceives as hypocrisy in the MMA community, noting that many who had criticized close friends for refusing to fight each other are now defending Amachov’s decision to help train against his former benefactor.
“The people who said Merab and Aljo should fight each other despite being the best friends, are now saying this is totally OK,” Kokiashvili continued. “Wonder how many silvers you guys need to sell your friends. Many Judas out there…”
The controversial decision comes as Dvalishvili (18-4-0) prepares to defend his title against the undefeated Nurmagomedov (18-0-0) in the co-main event at UFC 311. The bout is scheduled for January 19.
