Strength athlete Larry Wheels is facing scrutiny from the fitness community after claiming his current physique, a hulking 280 pounds with visible abs and vascularity, is maintained on nothing more than testosterone replacement therapy and a small dose of Anavar.
The revelation came during a video discussion that quickly caught the attention of Dr. Mike Israetel, who shared the clip with his followers. “TRT and 25 mg of Anavar,” Larry said in his video.
Israetel replied about the footnote, saying, “I love that little addition, can’t just be on TRT.”
For those unfamiliar with Wheels’ journey, the claim might seem laughable on its face. At approximately 280 pounds with single-digit body fat levels, he displays the kind of development that typically signals heavy PEDs use.
Israetel stated, “If you’ve followed Larry over the years, he’s had slightly different physiques over the years. And it’s really interesting because if you just totally unaccustomed to this and you don’t know who Larry Wheels is, you would look at his body and realize like ‘Oh he’s a liar. He’s absolutely not just on TRT and a little bit of anavar. How do you get to like whatever this is with abs and veins, with like hardly gear?”
Wheels has indeed presented with notably larger physiques in the past when using higher doses of PED. The key Israetel explains, is understanding muscle retention after building mass through heavier protocols.
“Once you get really gnarly on a lot of gear, if you go back down to TRT, you can maintain almost all of your size and even still slowly gain if you do things right,” the explanation continues.
Israetel agrees with Larry, saying, “So yeah, Larry really is on TRT and a little bit of Anavar. I 100% can believe it.”
However, the fitness community remains divided. Many commenters pointed out that the term “TRT” has become so loosely defined in bodybuilding circles that it’s essentially meaningless without specific dosages.
“When someone says TRT that usually means 500mg per week,” one commenter wrote, highlighting the disconnect between medical replacement doses and what enhanced athletes consider a “cruise.”
Another added: “Why do we accept him saying trt when he doesn’t say what that entails? What is his idea of trt in terms of test dosage? 140mg.. 175 mgs.. 250 mgs?.. 300mgs? And how much anavar?”
One detailed comment noted: “Its not just the size its that grain that hardness and the ability to maintain such low body fat percentage this is NOT testosterone alone, everyone who used roids knows that for such a look you need massive doses of harshest stuff.”
Some followers did express belief in Wheels’ claims, particularly those familiar with muscle memory and retention after years of enhanced training. “I remember him talking about 500mg test and 150mg anadrol a while back,” one person recalled, suggesting his current protocol represents a genuine reduction.
Others drew from personal experience. “That true that what happened to me now i am on TRT and still look the same as 400tren and 600 mast and 500 test or better,” one commenter shared, supporting the retention theory.
One particularly pointed comment stated: “Let’s all normalise again that TRT is only used for people who had a medical problem in the first place… No, Larry, you’re just juicing.”
