Khabib condemns ISIS Moscow bombing

In the world of mixed martial arts, few names resonate as powerfully as that of Khabib Nurmagomedov. The Russian, who announced his retirement from the sport in 2020, has left an indelible mark on the UFC and the world of combat sports.

However, recent events have led to calls for the martial artist to speak out against the perpetrators of a tragedy.

In a poignant message shared on Instagram, Nurmagomedov extended his sincere condolences to the bereaved families, condemning the cowardly act of violence perpetrated in the heart of his cherished nation. He expressed:

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the tragedy in Moscow. This is an immense loss, please take care of yourselves and your loved ones. Such atrocious acts are beyond human comprehension; those responsible will be held accountable for their reprehensible deeds.”

Reports indicate that the terror incident, which occurred at a prominent concert venue complex on the outskirts of Moscow, resulted in the loss of over 60 lives, with 145 others sustaining injuries. The assailants reportedly utilized explosive devices and firearms, instigating panic and devastation among attendees.

The ISIS-linked news agency Amaq claimed responsibility for the attack in a brief statement released on Telegram shortly after the incident. However, no substantiated evidence has been presented to validate this assertion.

The timing of the attack, occurring less than a week after President Vladimir Putin secured another term in office amidst a contentious election, casts a somber shadow over the nation’s recent political landscape. The magnitude of the assault marks one of the most significant terror incidents in Moscow in decades, eclipsing recent electoral developments and emphasizing the ongoing security challenges confronting the country.
