Jorge Masvidal has addressed the swirling speculation about a potential matchup with Conor McGregor at the rumored UFC White House card, though he’s remaining tight-lipped on specifics.
During a recent interview, Masvidal confirmed he’s training for “something big” but refused to confirm or deny reports linking him to a McGregor bout. “Give them what they want, not what they expect,” Masvidal said. “I can say some big news. You know, I have some fight news coming soon and it’s very big news. And I can’t deny or confirm what you just said.”
When pressed about the White House card specifically, Masvidal maintained his coy approach. “I can’t deny or confirm any of that right now, brother, but maybe hopefully soon I can,” he stated, suggesting an announcement could come within approximately 10 days.
The Miami native emphasized his connection to President Trump when discussing the potential opportunity. “I’m Trump’s favorite fighter, brother. That’s all you got to just keep in mind,” Masvidal said, referencing Trump’s own statements about getting Florida in the election. “Who got him Florida? He says it himself. It’s him on video saying it.”
Regarding potential opponents, Masvidal made clear the opponent matters less than the venue itself. “It’s the White House. I really don’t give a f**k, you know? I’m very, very easy to negotiate for in this particular fight,” he explained.
When asked directly about Leon Edwards as an alternative to McGregor, Masvidal doubled down: “Anybody does not matter. As long as I’m in the White House, it does not matter who, what, when, and where.”
The veteran UFC star revealed deeper motivations for wanting this specific opportunity. “I’m a Latin [person], you know, from immigrant parents of both sides, putting my crafts and skill on display at the highest level in the White House lawn. Like, who’s ever done that? Nobody,” Masvidal said. “It’d be a great honor for me and also to represent my Latin community.”
Masvidal acknowledged he might not receive premium placement on the card, noting he’s heard the entire main card could feature championship matches. “I might end up in the prelims because I heard the whole main card is all championship fights. I don’t have a belt, you know,” he admitted, adding that for this event, he’s “a team player” willing to accept any position on the card.
He confirmed having recent conversations with the UFC, though details remain confidential. “I’ve been talking to him and so has my manager,” Masvidal revealed, referencing manager Ali Abdelaziz’s involvement in negotiations with Dana White and Hunter Campbell.
The announcement appears imminent, with Masvidal expecting clarity soon on what he promises will be significant news for the MMA community.
