Jake Paul, the YouTube sensation turned combat sports star, is set to shift gears in his athletic career. After his highly anticipated bout with boxing legend Mike Tyson, Paul plans to transition his focus to mixed martial arts.
The 27-year-old has made waves in the boxing world, facing off against former UFC stars and building an impressive record. However, his next chapter will see him step into the cage with the PFL.
PFL CEO Peter Murray recently shed light on Paul’s future plans in an interview with SportsKeeda’s Knockout Session. Murray revealed that Paul’s match with Tyson will mark the culmination of his boxing endeavors for the year, paving the way for his MMA debut in 2025.
“A lot of planning is going into Jake Paul’s debut in 2025 and we’ll be sharing those details after Jake gets into the ring with Mike Tyson,” Murray stated. He emphasized that Paul is committed to facing a “very credible, well-rounded MMA fighter” in his first outing.
The transition from boxing to MMA presents unique challenges, as Murray noted: “Not easy to cross over from boxing into MMA. You know, the crossover from MMA or other disciplines into boxing is a lot easier.”
Paul’s multi-year deal with PFL’s SuperFights division has already generated buzz in the MMA community. The social media star has previously extended offers to notable fighters like Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal for potential matchups.
While this shift may impact Paul’s aspirations in professional boxing, including potential title opportunities, it demonstrates his commitment to evolving as a combat sports athlete. The World Boxing Association (WBA) had previously expressed openness to a clash between Paul and former champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. for a belt, but these plans may now be on hold.
