In a press conference in New York, Jake Paul made bold claims, comparing himself to the legendary Muhammad Ali as he prepares to face off against the iconic Mike Tyson. The highly anticipated bout, initially scheduled for July 20th, has been rescheduled for November 15th and will be streamed on Netflix.
Asked about his critics, Paul said: “At the end of the day, people are always going to have something to say. It’s because of who I am. I proved everyone wrong. Reminder: the most hated and most criticised boxer in the sport of boxing before they loved them was Muhammad Ali.”
“So, I’m the anti-hero, and people will love me soon enough once they realise what I’ve done for this sport and who I truly am. But it doesn’t bother me at the end of the day, because when you’re at the top, people are clawing to rip you down. And that’s just the way the game goes.”
Paul, the YouTuber-turned-fighter, did not hold back in his remarks, issuing a chilling warning to Tyson. “We will see who’s dead, Mike,” the 27-year-old told the former world heavyweight champion. Despite Tyson’s enforced “men*pause break” due to a recent ulcer flare-up, the Baddest Man on the Planet insists he has been back in the gym and is ready to face his much younger opponent.
As the press conference unfolded in Manhattan, the crowd’s reaction was telling, with Tyson receiving a hero’s welcome as a native of Brooklyn, while Paul was met with boos and chants of “YouTuber, YouTuber.” This prompted the younger boxer to lash out, declaring, “F*** you, New York. You’re just like Mike Tyson, you were good 20 years ago.”
Tyson, on the other hand, remained largely unfazed, offering only brief and muddled responses to the constant taunting. However, he did warn Paul that the fight would be “long and punishing,” adding, “I’m going to f*** you up… be in good shape, your health depends on it.”
Despite the heated exchange, the two eventually engaged in a clownish shoving match, with Paul once again drawing comparisons to the great Muhammad Ali.
The boxing match, set to take place at AT&T Stadium, the home of the Dallas Cowboys, will also feature the much-anticipated rematch between Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor. As the world watches, all eyes will be on the clash between the seasoned Tyson and the confident, self-proclaimed modern-day Ali, Jake Paul.
