Guess who? UFC loving actress looks unrecognizable as she starts shooting her boxing biopic

Sydney Sweeney has undergone a remarkable transformation for her latest role, stepping into the shoes of legendary boxer Christy Martin. The 27-year-old actress, known for her blonde bombshell looks in hit shows like Euphoria and The White Lotus, was spotted on set in Charlotte, North Carolina, looking virtually unrecognizable.

Sweeney’s physical metamorphosis for the David Michôd-directed biopic is striking. Gone are her signature golden locks, replaced by a brunette curly wig topped with a blue bandana – a nod to Martin’s iconic 90s look. The actress’s famous curves were concealed beneath baggy clothing, including a brown shirt, blue hoodie, and joggers, perfectly capturing Martin’s athletic style during her heyday.

The biopic aims to bring Martin’s inspiring yet tumultuous story to the big screen. Known as ‘The Coal Miner’s Daughter,’ Martin is credited with putting women’s boxing on the map. Her 1996 fight against Deirdre Gogarty at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas was a watershed moment for the sport, leading to Martin gracing the cover of Sports Illustrated and making appearances on popular talk shows.

Sweeney’s casting has received enthusiastic approval from Martin herself. “I think she is young, hot, talented,” Martin told TMZ, adding that the film will raise awareness about important issues beyond boxing. “I want this movie to bring awareness to domestic violence, the challenge of sexuality, and overall underdog story,” she explained.

The actress’s background in combat sports makes her particularly well-suited for the role. Sweeney previously revealed that she practiced grappling and kickboxing from ages 12 to 19, even competing successfully against male opponents in higher weight categories. “I’ve been itching to get back into the ring, train, and transform my body,” Sweeney told Deadline, expressing her excitement for the physically demanding part.
