Experts rate McGregor’s chances of becoming the president of Ireland as astronomically tiny

Former UFC champion Conor McGregor may have his sights set on Ireland’s highest office, but political experts and oddsmakers alike give the sports star virtually no chance of success in a potential presidential bid.

Following a high-profile visit to the White House this week, where McGregor met with U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss Ireland’s immigration issues and foreign spending concerns, the fighter openly expressed interest in pursuing Ireland’s presidency. During the meeting, McGregor described Ireland as America’s “little bro” and requested Trump’s assistance, much to the Irish government’s displeasure.

The meeting apparently energized McGregor, who has previously mentioned political ambitions but now seems more serious about following Trump’s path from celebrity to head of state.

However, political expert Gail Mcelroy told Sky News that McGregor faces nearly impossible odds: “There’s two hurdles. First, you have to get nominated and then you have to win a majority of the vote. Both of those hurdles are almost insurmountable [for McGregor].”

Betting markets reflect this assessment. According to one of the betting sites, the odds of McGregor even securing a nomination stand at +1000 (10-to-1), while the chances of him being excluded from nomination are set at -4000, indicating bookmakers consider his nomination extremely unlikely. Opening odds were +2500.

The odds grow even more daunting when considering an actual electoral victory. McGregor winning the presidency carries odds of +10000 (100-to-1), effectively giving him a 1% chance according to oddsmakers.

These long odds likely reflect McGregor’s lack of political experience and ongoing legal challenges. Despite his celebrity status and significant following, experts believe the path from the octagon to presidential office represents a challenge far greater than any he faced in his fighting career.

With no UFC return currently planned, McGregor appears to have time to pursue political aspirations. However, both expert analysis and betting markets suggest his presidential dreams remain firmly in the realm of fantasy rather than political reality.
