One of the Democratic Party’s most outspoken strategists, James Carville, made it clear that he has little interest in the ongoing debate over transgender athletes in sports. Appearing on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Carville dismissed the issue when the host suggested that Vice President Kamala Harris’s support for trans athletes played a role in the Democrats’ election struggles.
“If you’re concerned about the state track meet, please, do something about it,” Carville said. “If you’re concerned about that or about bathroom stalls, then hang out in bathrooms—this is not of concern to me!” Instead, he emphasized that his focus was on the cost of living and healthcare access, issues he believes are far more pressing for voters.
Morgan pushed back, arguing that Democrats underestimated how much cultural issues like transgender rights impacted the election. He claimed that Trump’s positioning as the voice of “common sense” resonated with voters who saw Biden and Harris’s stance as out of touch. Carville, while conceding that Republicans have successfully weaponized social issues, insisted that trans athletes are far from his top priority. “Honestly, I don’t think about it that much,” he admitted.
Republican candidates heavily leaned into anti-trans rhetoric this election cycle, using it as a cudgel against Democrats. Morgan himself has repeatedly engaged in debates on the topic, most notably clashing with astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson in December.
Carville has long criticized what he calls the Democratic Party’s “faculty lounge goofy academic language” but remains unconvinced that culture war topics like trans rights should dominate the political conversation. While Republicans may continue to hammer the issue, Carville’s stance is clear—he simply doesn’t care.
