Demetrious Johnson says he would never box Ryan Garcia: “He’s too f***ing fast.”

Demetrious Johnson, is one of ESPN’s top 10 MMA stars of the 21st century, but despite that he’s not too keen on professional boxing matches. The 37-year-old Washington state native even said he is willing to step into the ring with legendary eight-division boxing world champion Manny Pacquiao (45) under the right circumstances.

However, there’s one guy Johnson would never box – Ryan Garcia. In a recent guest appearance on the JAXXON Podcast he said, “I wouldn’t fight him. He’s too f***ing fast.”

Ryan Garcia is an American professional boxer who has competed across the super featherweight, lightweight, and light welterweight divisions. He is a 15-time national amateur champion, known for his uncanny speed and power. Most recently, Garcia knocked out previously unbeaten Devin Haney last April at the Barclays Center in New York City. However, after, Garcia fell into controversy when a PED was detected in his testing sample. The result against Haney was overturned into a No Contest, but fans believe Garcia’s victory over Haney is legitimate.

These days, Johnson is focused on furthering his burgeoning jiu-jitsu career, having recently been awarded his black belt.

Previously, Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson shared that his toughest challenges have come from gi-based jiu-jitsu rather than MMA. In a conversation, Johnson detailed the complexities of gi jiu-jitsu, such as dealing with grips and additional variables not present in MMA.

He likened the difference between no-gi and gi jiu-jitsu to the contrast between a SWAT team operation and a routine traffic stop, emphasizing the unpredictability and intricate technical challenges of gi jiu-jitsu. Despite these difficulties, Johnson has embraced the sport, finding a renewed passion for the grappling arts. He is preparing to compete at the IBJJF Masters black belt level, highlighting his dedication to continually adapting and overcoming new challenges in jiu-jitsu.
