Former UFC star Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone has revealed plans to resume testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) after completing his upcoming UFC return, which aims to reach the milestone of 50 career outings across UFC and WEC promotions combined.
The 41-year-old Denver native, who announced the end of his 2.5-year hiatus last month, disclosed on his YouTube channel that he previously utilized TRT and peptides for therapeutic purposes.

The story doesn’t end with dietary changes, however. Cerrone opened up about his use of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) and peptides, which he credits with helping him feel revitalized. “You feel like on the TRT especially anyone who is not like 38 to 42 area should be on testosterone replacement… you literally feel like you’re 18 Again,” he stated.
Cerrone emphasized that his treatment plan focused on therapeutic applications rather than performance enhancement. “I wasn’t on like crazy like get ripped like actual antibotic ster*ids I was on TRT and a bunch of peptides,” he clarified.
This appears to be a part of a new trend where many in the PED world compare “I’m Just on TRT” to the status fake natties used to have in a previous era.
“After getting that cleaned up, I’m feeling back to my healthy state,” Cerrone said. “Yes, I was on TRT and other peptides, which helped heal all the injuries I had, mainly my brain. It’s actually legal to still take to this day in the UFC. They call it ‘the foundation,’ and it helps revitalize your cells.”
The veteran athlete recently shared that his previous performance issues were linked to an unexpected source – a gluten allergy. “I had a lot of brain stuff going on, which led to my wanting to retire the last couple years just because of how bad my brain was,” Cerrone explained on the Rodeo Time Podcast. “It all turns out there’s a food allergy that I had, which is crazy.”

Looking ahead to his return, Cerrone must complete a six-month clean period before competing. “Oh, well, my six months. So, I’ve got to be clean for six months, and that’s conveniently enough for Fourth of July week,” he stated.
The former lightweight contender is considering competing at middleweight (185 pounds) for his remaining bouts. “We’ll see where my weight goes. You know what I want to do? I don’t want to cut any weight. I just want to show up and compete. So 185 sounds great to me. If I get down to 190, I’ll compete at 170. I don’t know. I’ll see how my body feels and what actually turns out.”
UFC CEO Dana White has expressed mixed feelings about Cerrone’s return, simply stating, “Love him, hate that.”
Cerrone has made a deal with the UFC that if he loses his comeback bout, he will permanently retire.
