Conor McGregor feasts on plastics in chicken recipe gone wrong

Mixed martial arts superstar Conor McGregor recently demonstrated his cooking skills on social media while promoting his Stout, but culinary experts and fans alike expressed concern over his preparation methods.

The 36-year-old athlete attempted to prepare a popular recipe involving a chicken cooked with a beverage can inserted into its cavity, a technique many home chefs enjoy. However, viewers quickly noted potential issues with McGregor’s approach.

“The plastic lining of the can is evaporating into your chicken. Have fun with that,” commented one concerned viewer on social media platform X.

Another explained: “Beer can chicken was great, before they started lining the cans with NON-heat safe plastic. Which is now in your food. Get an aluminum or stainless steel cylinder of the same size. Add beverage. Profit without plastic death.”

Food safety experts generally recommend using specialized metal containers designed specifically for this cooking method rather than commercial beverage cans, which may contain linings not intended for high-temperature cooking.

Viewers also expressed concern about McGregor’s food handling practices during the demonstration.

“Brooo, clean yooo hands! God!” wrote one fan, while another noted: “Wash them hands, bro! And that grill handle. And that phone. You and the family are gonna end up with salmonella or some other bacteria you do not want inside you.”

The Dublin native hasn’t competed professionally since summer 2021 and is reportedly focusing on business ventures outside the octagon. His Forged Irish Stout has received positive reviews from consumers, though his cooking techniques might need further refinement.

The sports icon has yet to respond to the culinary criticism, but the incident serves as a reminder that even world-class athletes can benefit from basic cooking safety guidelines.
