Conor McGregor deletes copies of CCTV footage shown to jury during civil trial

Former UFC champion Conor McGregor has complied with a High Court order by deleting CCTV footage that was presented during his civil trial, according to RTE in Ireland.

The footage, which was shown to jurors during proceedings last November, depicted McGregor, Nikita Hand, and their friends James Lawrence and Danielle Kealy in the car park and lift of Dublin’s Beacon Hotel before and after an incident in December 2018.

Following the trial, where a jury found McGregor had SA-ed Ms Hand, Mr Justice Alexander Owens directed the MMA star to return or destroy any copies of the footage in his possession. The court awarded Ms Hand $267,000 in damages.

McGregor has now filed a brief affidavit confirming the deletion of the footage, with plans to submit a more detailed affidavit before the next court hearing in February.

The judge’s order came amid concerns that McGregor might share the footage with Italian business associate Gabriel Ernesto Rapisarda, who had suggested online that releasing the CCTV footage would boost sales of McGregor’s business ventures.

“It was not open to McGregor to make contrary claims or selectively use bits and pieces of evidence in the public arena to suit himself,” stated Mr Justice Owens, who exercised his authority to prevent any potential contempt of court.

McGregor, who has publicly stated his intention to appeal the verdict, is also required to pay the majority of Ms Hand’s legal costs, estimated at $1.65 million.

UFC President Dana White, when asked about the civil case in December, responded: “What do you mean what’s my reaction. If I had a comment I would’ve put it out already.”

The 36-year-old Irish star has recently been involved in promoting BKFC, which he co-owns with David Feldman.
