Former UFC champion BJ Penn has once again sparked concern among fans and the MMA community with a series of troubling social media posts suggesting his family members have been replaced by impostors.
In his latest Instagram posts, the 45-year-old MMA legend made alarming claims about his mother and brothers, writing: “My mother Lorraine Shin, my brother Jay Dee Penn, my brother, Reagan penn and my brother Kalani Mamacka were all murdered and I need you to investigate these guys get these people out of my house and my properties #hawaii.”
Penn followed this with another concerning post suggesting he was contemplating potential action but feared legal consequences: “If I harm any of these people that are acting like my mom or my brothers, I go to jail and lose everything. If they harm me, nothing will happen to them and I lose everything.”

The post continued with Penn appealing to law enforcement contacts: “I have many black belts over the years that are police officers. Are you guys gonna help me? Are we going to help Jd and Reagan and my mother and look for them and investigate these fake frauds who are trying to steal everything from my family?”
These disturbing messages come shortly after Penn shared a video questioning the existence of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain condition associated with repeated head trauma. The video featured Dr. Mark Heisig, a naturopathic physician, discussing a March 2024 study examining traumatic encephalopathy syndrome (TES) criteria in the general population.
In the shared clip, Dr. Heisig suggests that since TES symptoms appear common even among people without histories of repetitive head impacts, “Maybe it’s not the head impacts, maybe we’ve got to be treating something else.”
Health experts note that while the referenced study does highlight important questions about TES diagnostic criteria, it doesn’t disprove CTE’s existence or its connection to head trauma. Medical professionals have expressed concern about the interpretation of medical research by naturopathic physicians, whose training is generally less rigorous than that of medical doctors.
Penn’s posts have prompted an outpouring of concern from fans. Many commenters have urged the former champion to seek professional help, with messages like “From a place of love, please seek help” receiving numerous likes, indicating widespread worry about his wellbeing.
Others have embraced Penn’s skeptical stance on CTE, with some supporters commenting, “Great share bro. We all knew this wasn’t adding up.”
Penn, widely considered one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time, had a storied career that included UFC championships in multiple weight classes. His legendary status has made his recent social media activity all the more concerning to longtime fans and the combat sports community.
As of this reporting, Penn’s family members are reportedly alive and well, contradicting his claims about their alleged death and replacement.
