A travel vlogger’s recent visit to Dublin revealed a surprising shift in local sentiment towards UFC superstar Conor McGregor, with young residents expressing strong negative opinions about the former double champion.
During an interview in McGregor’s hometown, where he recently purchased a pub on the main road, the vlogger encountered unexpected responses when asking locals about their views on the fighter.
“I wouldn’t go to see Conor McGregor, he’s a ra**st,” one young individual stated firmly, suggesting this opinion was shared by others in the community. When pressed about these views, the local indicated that McGregor’s wealth and behavior had changed him significantly from his earlier days.
The interaction highlights a notable decline in McGregor’s popularity in his home country, where he once enjoyed widespread support. During his rise to fame, McGregor was known for his proud representation of Ireland, famously declaring, “We’re not here to take part, we’re here to take over.”
Recent controversies have impacted McGregor’s reputation, including a civil lawsuit that resulted in him paying $250,000 in damages. His competitive career has also seen setbacks since achieving two-division champion status in 2016. Following his boxing match with Floyd Mayweather in 2017, McGregor experienced an extended absence from MMA, followed by multiple losses, including a defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov.
UFC’s Ilia Topuria recently shared his perspective on McGregor’s evolution: “That guy is so sick. He has some problems in his inside world. At the same time, when he was starting in mixed martial arts, he was an idol for all of us. He was a great fighter, represented great values. He did a lot for the sport, but at some point, he betrayed all the values that put him in that point.”
Currently, McGregor is involved with BKFC, which he partially owns, and has discussed potentially competing in bare-knuckle competition, though fans remain skeptical about these plans.
