Enter Brendan Schaub, a UFC heavyweight contender standing at 6’4″ and weighing 245 pounds (he’s since started claiming he’s 6’6″), with ‘extensive’ martial arts expertise. Schaub’s physical attributes made him a more appropriate real-world equivalent to DOOM’s protagonist.
Schaub’s performance was remarkable. His initial control run with a single weapon was completed in just four minutes. When testing the full loadout – including nine weapons, three medical kits, and two ammo boxes – Schaub demonstrated extraordinary capabilities. Despite carrying the same equipment that had severely impeded Adam and Jamie, Schaub maintained his speed and efficiency throughout the course.
Perhaps most surprisingly, even while audibly groaning under the weight, Schaub’s completion time remained consistent between his single-weapon and full-loadout runs. The addition of 33 pounds of equipment, including the infamous chainsaw, failed to significantly impact his performance.
The experiment revealed that while carrying multiple weapons would indeed pose a significant challenge for most individuals, an elite athlete of Schaub’s caliber could potentially manage the feat without sacrificing speed or combat effectiveness – lending some credibility to DOOM’s weapon-carrying mechanics.
