No, UFC does not employ a guy to make sure commentators sit back in their chairs

A viral video circulating on social media has sparked curiosity about a UFC employee’s supposed role as a “chair guardian” for commentators, but there’s more to the story than meets the eye.

Miles Lafosse, who has been misidentified as the “UFC Chairman” or “chair guy” in viral clips, is actually an integral member of the production team serving as the booth audio technician. His primary responsibility involves managing all microphones around the octagon, including the commentators’ equipment.

Lafosse took to social media to clarify his position: “I’m the booth audio technician. All microphones around the octagon including commentators mics are set up by me. During the events I’m there to make sure everything sounds great but also help the commentators feel comfortable with whatever they need.”

He explained that while he does assist when chairs move during exciting moments, his main focus is ensuring the technical aspects run smoothly, particularly for lead commentator Jon Anik: “He’s the only commentator that has his headset cable ran behind him from his left ear to his right hip. I make sure he doesn’t sit on the slack and rips his headset off.”

UFC cage-side reporter Megan Olivi praised Lafosse’s contributions: “From the headsets, to the stick mics to the executives headphones (and about a million more things) are all under his watch and care during the shows. He helps us in a million different ways. He’s one of the best dudes ever, we are all lucky to call him our friend aside from our colleague.”

A notable example of Lafosse’s quick thinking occurred during UFC 287 in 2023, when Israel Adesanya reclaimed his title. During the excitement, he helped secure equipment and ensure broadcast continuity while the commentary team reacted to the moment.

While social media may have created an amusing narrative about his role, Lafosse’s actual responsibilities are far more technical and crucial to the broadcast’s success. As he humorously noted, “I will say UFC Chairman has a ring to it.”
