Enson Inoue Speaks Out on Arrest and Conviction: “I Lost 21 kg (46lbs) During My Time in Prison”

MMA legend Enson Inoue has broken his silence about his recent arrest and criminal conviction in Japan, offering a candid account of the events that led to his legal troubles.

In a revealing podcast in Japanese, Inoue explained that his arrest stemmed from bringing chocolate containing small amounts of magic mushrooms into Japan from the United States. He emphasized that the product was legal in the U.S. and marketed as a health supplement, which he consumed for its purported anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties.

Inoue admitted to underestimating Japan’s strict laws, stating, “I thought it might be illegal, but I took a gamble.” He expressed deep regret for not thoroughly researching the legality of the substance in Japan before attempting to bring it into the country.

The MMA legendspent 99 days in detention, during which he lost 21 kilograms. He described the experience as challenging, particularly due to the worry it caused his family and students. Despite the hardship, Inoue was moved by the support he received from fans and his martial arts students throughout the ordeal.

Addressing his supporters, Inoue apologized for disappointing them and acknowledged the impact of his actions on his reputation. He expressed gratitude for the continued support from fans who have stood by him despite the controversy.

Looking ahead, Inoue plans to continue training his students and focus on rebuilding his career. He aims to be more proactive in his work, including expanding his YouTube presence and promoting his martial arts teachings.

Inoue concluded with a message of determination, promising to overcome this setback and prove himself worthy of his fans’ support. “I will definitely stand up again,” he assured, asking for continued encouragement as he works to clear all issues and make a full comeback.

Enson Inoue has been sentenced to two years in prison for importing chocolate infused with psilocybin into Japan. However, the sentence comes with a four-year suspension, meaning Inoue can avoid serving time if he maintains good behavior during this period.
