Boxer Jermall Charlo charged with DWI four months after allegedly crashing his Lamborghini

Undefeated boxing champion Jermall Charlo is facing legal troubles following a May incident involving his luxury SUV. The 34-year-old boxer has been charged with driving while intoxicated, collision involving damage to a vehicle, and leaving the scene of an accident, according to records from Brazoria County, Texas.

The incident occurred on May 6 when Charlo, driving a red Lamborghini Urus valued at approximately $240,000, was involved in a collision with another vehicle around 6:40 PM. A spokesperson for the Pearland Police Department reported that Charlo allegedly left the scene after a verbal exchange with the other driver.

Law enforcement attempted to pull over the boxer, but he reportedly ignored their sirens until officers managed to box him in at a red light, about a mile from the collision site. Upon conducting a sobriety test, officers noted signs of impairment and subsequently arrested Charlo at the scene.

This legal setback comes at a time when Charlo’s career had been on an upswing. With a perfect 33-0 professional record, including 22 knockouts, he last competed in November, securing a unanimous decision victory against Jose Benavidez Jr.

In a recent interview with the New York Post, Charlo opened up about his personal struggles, including mental health issues. “Depression, self-conflation, going from hot to cold really fast is shocking to you,” he shared. “Dealing with all kinds of cases of [being] bipolar, being by yourself, thinking that you shutting the world out is gonna help you. But you need to be able to speak to someone and help you get past whatever you’re going through.”

The boxer also revealed that these challenges had strained his relationship with his twin brother, Jermell Charlo, who holds a 35-2-1 record. However, Jermall indicated that they are now working to mend their bond. “We’re good,” he stated. “We talk, I could call him [now]. Normally I wouldn’t even be able to call him, he wouldn’t answer, or we wouldn’t talk.”
