Boxing fans are furious with WBA considering giving Jake Paul a world title shot

In a move that has sparked outrage among boxing enthusiasts, the World Boxing Association (WBA) president, Guillermo Mendoza, has expressed openness to the idea of granting Jake Paul a world title shot against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Paul, the YouTube-turned-boxer, recently dominated former UFC star Mike Perry in a boxing bout that was stopped in the sixth round due to the overwhelming punishment Perry was enduring.

This impressive performance has seemingly piqued the interest of the WBA, with Mendoza stating, “I am not against a @jakepaul v. @jcchavezjr for a championship…” and following up with “See you soon champ!”

The news has sent ripples through the boxing community, with fans taking to social media to voice their displeasure. Many believe that Paul, despite his growing skills and fanbase, has not earned the right to compete for a world title, particularly against an experienced fighter like Chavez Jr.

One fan commented, “This is a disgrace to the sport of boxing. Jake Paul has no business fighting for a world title. He needs to earn his stripes like everyone else.” Another expressed, “The WBA is a joke for even considering this. Paul has not put in the work or faced the level of competition to deserve a title shot. This is an insult to the sport.”

The potential matchup between Paul and Chavez Jr. would undoubtedly likely significant interest and media attention, but many feel that it would undermine the integrity of the sport’s championship system.

Chavez Jr., a former WBC middleweight champion, has a long and storied career in boxing, and fans argue that he deserves to compete against more seasoned and accomplished opponents.
