(Video) Intergender MMA Clash Ends With KO

Japan’s BreakingDown promotion delivered one of its most talked-about moments over the weekend when Rei Miyamoto stepped into the cage against male athlete Toshizo at Breakdown 20.

The organization, founded by MMA star Mikuru Asakura, is known for its high-energy one-minute, single-round format that has built a massive following across the country.

Miyamoto had personally called out Toshizo, driven by a desire to test her own limits and find out what competing against a male opponent truly felt like. She got her answer, though not the result she was hoping for, as Toshizo secured the win by knockout.

What followed, however, turned into an awkward moment that quickly spread across social media. Kaito Asakura did not hold back his thoughts on how the bout unfolded.

“You shouldn’t punch a girl’s face,” Asakura told Toshizo directly.

Toshizo, for his part, defended his approach, explaining that his opponent left him little choice.

“That girl was so strong, I had no choice but to go for the face,” he said.

Miyamoto, unbothered by the loss, responded with characteristic confidence.

“But if it was a street brawl, I could win,” she fired back.

The exchange left Toshizo in an unusual position. He had won, yet found himself on the receiving end of criticism rather than praise.

The male athlete summed up his own situation with a resigned sense of humor. “In the end, it’s a bad ending, isn’t it?” he said.

Japanese fans online were quick to pile on with reactions ranging from sympathy to outright laughter. Comments flooded in noting that the moment Toshizo went all out against a female opponent, there was really no version of events where he came out looking great.
