WWE superstar Drew McIntyre made a provocative claim during his recent visit to the UFC card: Edwards vs. Brady event at London’s O2 Arena.
McIntyre, appearing in a WWE vlog posted to the company’s official YouTube channel, didn’t mince words when discussing how he might fare in the UFC octagon compared to former WWE champion CM Punk.
“I can confidently say, if I got in the Octagon right now with zero training whatsoever, I would do 1,000 times better than CM Punk,” McIntyre declared with unwavering conviction. “I mean that. 1,000 times better.”
This bold assertion references CM Punk’s brief and unsuccessful UFC career. After departing WWE in 2014, Punk (whose real name is Phil Brooks) pursued a career in mixed martial arts, signing with the UFC despite having no professional fighting background. His venture resulted in two decisive losses – first to Mickey Gall in 2016 and then to Mike Jackson in 2018 – before ending his UFC experiment.
McIntyre, standing at 6’5″ and weighing approximately 265 pounds, certainly possesses an imposing physical presence that might serve him well in combat sports. However, the Scottish Warrior has never professionally competed in MMA, making his claim particularly audacious.
The comments come amid ongoing tension between McIntyre and Punk, who returned to WWE in late 2023 after a nearly decade-long absence. The two have exchanged verbal jabs both on screen and through social media over recent months.
Industry insiders note that McIntyre’s statement could potentially be building toward an in-ring confrontation between the two WWE superstars, possibly at an upcoming premium live event.
While McIntyre appeared to enjoy his time as a spectator at the UFC event in London, there’s no indication he plans to test his theory by actually stepping into the octagon. For now, the Scottish superstar remains focused on his WWE career, where he continues to be one of the company’s most prominent performers.
