WWE superstar Chelsea Green has stepped away from social media after facing a torrent of death threats and harassment for comments she made about Hulk Hogan following news of his recent passing.
The controversy erupted after Green appeared on a CBS interview earlier this week, where she was asked to comment on Hogan’s death at age 71 from cardiac arrest at his Florida home. Her response, which focused on Hogan’s impact on professional wrestling, sparked immediate backlash from critics who felt she failed to address the wrestling legend’s troubled past.
“Polarizing political views aside, he was an absolute icon,” Green said during the live television appearance. The comment quickly drew criticism online, with many pointing to Hogan’s history of racist remarks that were captured in leaked audio recordings.
Recognizing the intensity of the negative response, Green took to social media to clarify her position and offer an apology. “A significant part of my role at @WWE involves engaging with the public & responding to questions, often on live platforms. Yesterday, I was asked to comment on Hulk Hogan on live TV. Let me be clear: my stance on r*cism is unwavering,” she wrote.
The WWE performer continued her statement, emphasizing her opposition to discrimination. “I do not condone it—period. If my response (or tweet) seemed dismissive of real concerns, I sincerely apologize. That was never my intention. I tried to acknowledge a death respectfully, even when the legacy is complicated. I am learning one day at a time and will continue to learn.”

Despite her attempt to address the concerns and apologize, the situation escalated dramatically. Green revealed that the criticism had evolved into something far more sinister, with anonymous accounts sending her death threats and engaging in personal attacks.
The harassment became so severe that Green made the difficult decision to temporarily leave social media entirely. In her final post before stepping away, she described the emotional toll the experience had taken on her.
“I’ve tried to keep my page positive and comedic, but today, a lot changed… and it hit harder than I expected. The name-calling, the death threats, the faceless accounts,” Green shared with her followers on social media.
She expressed disappointment about how the platform she once enjoyed had become a source of stress and negativity. “Social media was supposed to be a fun place, and it hasn’t been for a while. It’s been overwhelming, and I need to step away for a little bit.”

Green is currently in a challenging position that many public figures find themselves in when commenting on controversial topics. On the other hand, Hulk Hogan has played a major role in transforming professional wrestling and shaping sports entertainment during his time in WWE. However, his legacy has been marred by numerous controversies and scandals that have damaged his public image.
