Volkanovski reveals Strickland’s influence: Goggins relaying advice to Ferguson

Alexander Volkanovski’s recent revelation sheds light on an interesting ringside moment during the UFC 296 bout between Tony Ferguson and Paddy Pimblett.

In the match, Paddy secured a unanimous decision win over Ferguson. This extended the American’s losing streak to seven losses.

CasualsCorner shared a video on their Instagram, which included a clip from Alexander Volkanovski’s YouTube channel.

In the YouTube video, Volkanovski talks about Strickland’s engagement during the bout. He recounted the incident, highlighting Strickland’s vocal encouragement directed at David Goggins. He in turn relayed the motivational message to Tony Ferguson.

Volkanovski’s stated: “[Sean Strickland] was even screaming out to [David] Goggins, ‘Goggins, tell him to get up!’ Goggins looks back, acknowledges what Sean Strickland says and then like, literally screams out to Tony, ‘Tony, get up!’ Obviously, he’s motivational you know, David Goggins style ramping it up pretty much, ‘Get the f up.'”

Despite Ferguson’s display of resilience, the match concluded in Pimblett’s favor. Volkanovski’s explanation implies Strickland’s clear support for Ferguson throughout the bout.

Looking ahead, Alexander Volkanovski is set to defend his featherweight championship against Ilia Topuria at UFC 298 on February 17. This bout marks Volkanovski’s return since his knockout loss to Islam Makhachev at UFC 294. He had stepped in on short notice for the bout after Charles Oliveira’s withdrawal.

Volkanovski’s aspiration for a two-division championship hit a hurdle with the second loss to Makhachev.

On the other hand, Ilia Topuria has swiftly climbed the featherweight rankings. He has impressive victories against esteemed opponents like Bryce Mitchell and Josh Emmett. Maintaining an unbeaten 14-0 MMA record, Topuria stands as a highly anticipated prospect.

Middleweight champion Sean Strickland recently talked about his previous childhood trauma. However, it doesn’t appear like the champion is altering his ways.

He recently wrote on X: “So I did a podcast with Theo… goddamn wall broke a little bit, allergies started to act up.. It wasn’t my finest moment…. damn demons lol

Idk what to do now… I think I need to go buy an iPhone and a tesla, adopt a cat, all vegan diet… maybe start f*cking dudes IDK.. LMAO”
